TWO TYPES OF SOLAR SETUPS:

On-grid solar setups, also known as grid-tied or grid-connected systems, are designed to work in conjunction with the local utility grid. These systems are equipped with solar panels, inverters, and other components that convert sunlight into electricity and feed it into the grid. The main advantage of on-grid systems is their ability to offset electricity costs through net metering, where excess power generated during sunny periods is sent back to the grid, earning credits that can be used when solar production is low. On-grid systems do not require batteries, which reduces their upfront costs and maintenance. However, they do not provide power during grid outages, as they are designed to shut down to protect utility workers.

Off-grid solar setups, also known as stand-alone systems, operate independently of the utility grid. These systems are typically equipped with solar panels, charge controllers, inverters, and batteries for energy storage. Off-grid systems are ideal for remote locations where grid access is unavailable or unreliable. They offer complete energy independence and can provide power even during grid outages. However, off-grid systems require careful sizing and planning to ensure that the battery storage capacity is sufficient to meet energy needs during periods of low solar production. The initial cost of off-grid systems is generally higher due to the inclusion of batteries and additional components, and they also require regular maintenance of the battery storage system.
